Children | Jamie Schultz Photography- baby, children, high school senior pictures, family photographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Twin Cities - Part 2

Built in the late 1800's, my studio is home to great history & memories. A childhood dream was realized when I opened my boutique style photography studio loft in this unique space filled with character. The space combined with our location in the quaint downtown area of Hudson, WI offers the capability for custom photography sessions indoors in addition to personalized on-location sites. My signature portrait style consists of simple,

yet strong composition resulting in images that are both honest and highly emotive. Foregoing stiff poses and forced smiles, I interact with subjects in such a way that unveils their distinct personalities. This approach combined with exquisite attention to detail provides for a comfortable and relaxed photo session and extraordinary images.

The Cake Lady

I’m often asked who is behind the cakes I have made for my kids’ birthday parties and events.  So without further ado let me introduce you to the insanely talented, Becca, also known as “the cake lady” by my kids.  Becca’s creations are nothing short of works of art.  Her attention to detail is awe-inspiring!  Needless to say, she has brought her fair share of smiles to my kids’ faces over the years!  Not only is she an incredible artist, but she is a fabulous mom as well.  I’ve been photographing her family for a few years now and her kids are so well behaved and each has personality galore.  It’s always such a joy to work with them!  Before I get to their session images I just have to share a few of the cakes Becca has made for us:

And now for a few of the images from their family session we did last Fall:

Grandma Jerome’s Cookies…

What a fun session this one was!!  My client wanted her Christmas card this year to include her Grandma’s delicious sugar cookie recipe.  Together we came up with a plan to photograph her kids baking and decorating cookies to use on the card.  The kids loved whipping together the dough, but nothing compared to when the frosting and sprinkles came out.  Oh, the fun they had!

My job as a photographer has allowed me to work with some pretty amazing people in my lifetime.  Susan is one of them!  I’m not sure if I’ve ever met someone who gives so much of themselves as Susan.  If she’s not participating in 3-day cancer walks, she’s volunteering at school or hosting fundraisers for other causes she feels passionate about.  Her generosity and selfless attitude is so incredibly inspiring and I know is appreciated by so many people in her life.  I’ve loved getting to know Susan and her family over the past few years and it’s been such a treat to watch her boys grow into gentlemen.  Not surprisingly,  her sons are sweet, compassionate and full of life…just like their parents.  Here are just a few of the images from their recent session:

The Pirate and a Princess…

I recently photographed these adorable kiddos and had a lot of fun in the process.  The little boy has a love of pirates and I can’t tell you how impressed he was of my knowledge of all things pirates.  Needless to say, he and I hit it off “straight away, matey”….arrrrrgh!  The little girl was such a little princess and I just had to giggle at how much she loved changing from one outfit to another.  She was so sweet and oh, so cute which certainly made my job easy.  Unfortunately, our first shoot was cut short because of rain but I drove our to their house a few days later to wrap it up.  When I finished the 2nd shoot I walked into the family room and captured a shot of the little boy playing legos with his dad.  As a mama of two young boys I know this scene all too well!  To the Pirate and the Princess…thanks so much for a fun day(s)!

A Fall Family Session…

Every year for the past 4 1/2 years I’ve had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family.  My first session started with them was a maternity session just before they welcomed their first child into the world.  What a treat it’s been for me to work with them year after year as they welcome new babies into the world and every Fall to capture images of their family.  The kids have grown to know me and are pretty darn comfortable in front of the camera.  Here are a few of my favorite images from this year’s session:

Children, Newborn.

Welcome, little one…

The past few months I’ve been hard at work photographing a lot of high school seniors so to have a little baby arrive in the midst of “senior season” was a nice change of pace.  This beautiful baby boy slept soundly almost the entire time I was there which made my job pretty easy.  His big sister was there to lend a helping hand throughout the shoot and what a good helper she was!  She is so proud of her new title and could hardly wait to have her picture taken with him.  Here are just a few of the pictures from the session:

On a mission…

I’ve been photographing both of these girls since the were newborns and it’s been such a treat to watch their little personalities develop over the years.  The oldest one is such a sweet, girly girl and loves to chat about all things “girl”.  She and I have developed quite a bond and every time we meet she picks up the conversation right where we left off.  The youngest is a little spit fire (her mom’s word, not mine) but she’s right…this little girl can definitely hold her own and knows EXACTLY what she wants.  From the moment I started photographing her she had one thing on her mind…getting in the nearby lake.  At one point I was working with her older sister, tired of waiting for me she stripped down and headed straight for the water.  I made a run for her and captured the entire sequence of events that made her one VERY happy little girl.  It was another fun shoot and I simply cannot wait to see what happens next year.

Growing up…

This little boy has grown up so fast!  It seems like just yesterday I was taking his newborn photos, yet here he is at 3 years old.  He is such a talkative little thing and has personality galore. It was so fun listening to him jump from one topic to the next and I love how serious he got at certain points in his conversation…as though he wanted to make sure I was giving him my full attention.  I could have photographed him all day long…so fun!

I first met Madison four years ago when she came to the studio for some headshots for an acting camp she was attending in California.  Now she is a student at a performing arts high school in downtown St. Paul and needed to update her portfolio with new headshots.  When Madison arrived for her session I had to look twice…what a difference four years makes!  The cute little girl I remembered grew up and is now a beautiful young woman.  Madison has personality galore and is so passionate about what she’s doing that you can’t help but feel inspired when you’re around her.  I loved listening to her stories about life at her high school and the various classes she’s had an opportunity to take.  It’s a far cry from the traditional high school experience that’s for sure!  Madison, I wish you the very best in all of your endeavors and I can’t wait to see you again in a few short years for your senior session!

I’ve mentioned this before on my blog, but one of the best parts about my job as a photographer is meeting and working with people I may never have met otherwise.  These beautiful sisters were visiting the U.S. from Holland and when they arrived for their photo session I knew instantly we would hit it off.  The girls had me the moment they started talking about how much they love to travel, shop and both of them love to read…need I say more?!  We had so much fun that I had a very difficult time wrapping up the shoot.  I was sad to seem them go, but it sounds like they may come back for another visit in the future.  Here’s hoping we meet again, girls!  :)
