High School Senior | Jamie Schultz Photography- baby, children, high school senior pictures, family photographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Twin Cities

Built in the late 1800's, my studio is home to great history & memories. A childhood dream was realized when I opened my boutique style photography studio loft in this unique space filled with character. The space combined with our location in the quaint downtown area of Hudson, WI offers the capability for custom photography sessions indoors in addition to personalized on-location sites. My signature portrait style consists of simple,

yet strong composition resulting in images that are both honest and highly emotive. Foregoing stiff poses and forced smiles, I interact with subjects in such a way that unveils their distinct personalities. This approach combined with exquisite attention to detail provides for a comfortable and relaxed photo session and extraordinary images.

Boy, oh boy…it’s been a while since I’ve posted here on the blog.  In an effort to be more mindful of how much time I spend online I took a big step back from posting here and on social media. It was such a good exercise for me in my personal life (especially with two teen/tween boys at home) and it also allowed me to be more present with my portrait clients ensuring they received an experience to remember. It’s pretty amazing the clarity that comes from the simple act of disconnecting for a while.

Having said that, my hope is to pop in every now and again and share snippets of what’s going on here at the studio. We have some exciting things happening so it will be fun to fill you in on all the latest so be sure to check back every once in a while.

I’m in awe of the talent among our high school seniors we photographed last season. Emma was certainly no exception. She has a passion for dance and wow, did it ever show through in her images. She was an absolute delight to work with and I loved creating a custom art print for her using one of her favorite photos from the session. Emma, I wish you the very best as you finish out your senior year and prepare to go off to college! And a huge congratulations on your acceptance into the Honor’s Program!

Anna Taylor

When I set out on my session with Anna, her mom mentioned that music was a huge part of her life. They brought along her guitar in case we wanted to incorporate it into some of the photos and I’m so glad she did! I went through the entire photo shoot with Anna noting what a natural she was in front of the camera, but little did I know the raw talent that was right before me. You see…we used the guitar in some of the frames, but never once did I hear Anna play or sing.  A week or two after the session I sent her mom a sneak peek image of Anna and her guitar. Her mom replied saying how much she loved the photo and linked me to one of Anna’s music videos! Needless to say, I was blown away by her voice! Something tells me big things will come her way.

Here are some links to her videos…definitely worth a listen in my opinion!  Click HERE, HERE, and HERE!

What a treat it was photographing Shaylee. She is a beautiful young lady who was an absolute natural in front of the camera. We really couldn’t have asked for better weather, but we did manage to go through a bottle of bug spray during the session! Lucky for me, Shaylee was a trooper and didn’t let the mosquitoes rain on our parade. We managed to get to several locations and shot straight through until sunset. Here are just a few photos from her gallery:

Paige | East Ridge High School

What a summer we’ve been having here in the great state of Wisconsin. The weather over the past few months makes the long, cold winters seem worth it…almost! The nice thing about gorgeous summer weather is that it makes for a perfect conditions for photo shoots. When Paige arrived for her session clouds were looming, but within a few minutes they blew over and we were left with a few hours of nothing but sunshine. She was an absolute sweetheart and as you can see…she’s a natural beauty which means she made my job extra easy!

Personal Projects

I’m going on my 9th year in business and one thing I’ve discovered is that I have a bit of routine when it comes to prepping for my senior shooting season. Each year, after we thaw out from our long, cold winter and before the start of my senior season, I like to do a photo shoot that is just for me. This is a chance for me to get back in the groove of shooting outdoors, practice new techniques, try out  new locations, and build a collection of images to use for work assignments.

When I set out to do a personal project I never quite know who my subject will be or where I’ll find them.  Somehow right about the time I get the bug to work on a photo project it seems I come across the perfect person. This year that person was Kara. I was in yoga class one day with Kara and her mom and I knew right away that I wanted to get Kara in front of my camera. We arranged for her to come out to my studio and I’m so glad we did. Having an opportunity to photograph her was exactly what I needed. Our session reminded me of just how much I love the art of photography and it made me more excited than ever for the upcoming senior shooting season. Thank you, Kara!

High School Senior.

I had a wonderful time getting to know Brianna, a senior at Hudson High School.  Brianna is an ambitious and compassionate girl who will be attending Bethel University in the fall!  We found ourselves racing against an incoming storm during her session but Brianna wasn’t phased in the least.  She kept me laughing and smiling the whole way through and when we felt the rain drops we both shrugged our shoulders and kept shooting through the rain.  I loved hearing about the mission trips she’s been on and about her plans for the future.  It was definitely a session to remember!  Best wishes to you, Brianna!

Anytime I have the opportunity to work with  motivated, hard-working, kind and generous kids it serves as a good reminder that I might just have the best job in the world.   Sophie, a senior at East Ridge High School, is the perfect example…she has an incredibly sweet disposition with incredible character.    I so enjoyed chatting with her and her mom as we walked around town during her session and learning more about Sophie and her plans for the future.  It’s clients like this that make it so fun for me to get up and go to work every day!

My session with Abby, a Hudson High School senior, took place on a beautiful day in August.  Abby’s confidence and bubbly personality made for a FUN session.  So much so, that I think I was smiling behind the camera just as much as she was in front of the camera.  We shared a few great belly laughs as we wandered around town chatting and getting to know each other throughout her session.  Abby was an absolute delight to photograph!

Every year I’m always amazed at how much my senior clients and I have in common!  As Ella and I were driving around to various locations it felt a lot like I was talking to a long lost friend instead of someone I had just met.  Our shared love of reading, fashion, and traveling made for a great conversation and also made the time fly.  On the day of her session she received her acceptance letter from her #1 choice…The University of Iowa.  I’m incredibly excited for her and know she will excel in college.  Ella, I wish you the very best as you head into your senior year.  I had a great time working with you!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while it should come as no surprise to you when I say that I love high school senior season.  It’s such a treat for me to work with kids who are on the brink of adulthood and to listen to them talk about their hopes and dreams for the future.  My session with Courtney was no exception.  I had a great time getting to know her and hearing about her plans for college.  She has the world at her fingertips and I have no doubt she’ll make the most of it.  Best wishes to you, Courtney!
