If the shoe fits…

My original session with Stillwater High School senior, Isabeau, fizzled out pretty quickly as the rain clouds moved in.  However, I did browse through her clothes to see what we had to work with at our next session and I spotted this amazing black dress.  She didn’t have any shoes to go with it so I suggested she try to find a peep-toe shoe in a fun color like bright yellow?!  We laughed as we realized the odds of finding a bright yellow pair of peep-toe shoes at the end of summer were slim to none.  Never fear, my friends, she found one pair on clearance and guess what…they were just her size!  Isabeau, I had a great time working with you and thanks for being such a trooper walking around town in your gorgeous new shoes.

Up North…

A few months ago I received a call from a client whom I’ve worked with several times before, asking if I would consider traveling to her when they welcomed baby number 4 into their family.  I was delighted to have the opportunity not only to photograph sweet baby Brady, but also to travel up north with my family.  We left a few days prior to the session and spent time hiking in Gooseberry Falls, riding a train through the northwoods, and learning how to skip rocks (”it’s all in the stone” according to my 5 year-old son).  I love that my “work” allows me opportunities such as this…gotta’ love it!

Welcome Brady!

His loving siblings:

Your brothers and sister have taught you well I see:

A little behind-the-scenes action…I couldn’t resist:

I also had the privilege of working with my client’s sister-in-law whose waterfront property was absolutely gorgeous (as were the kiddos)!

Thanks again you guys!!

‘Tis the season…

Around this time every year my blog entries slow down significantly which is in such sharp contrast to what is going on behind the scenes.  This transition from summer to fall brings such a beautiful mix of colors and ideal temperatures making it the perfect picture taking season.  It is also the time of year when clients start thinking about their holiday cards.  Here is just a small sample of some of the card designs available this season.  Regular blog posts will return in the very near future…stay tuned!!

Louise…

As some of you know, I spent my post-grad/pre-mommy days working as a high school history and human geography teacher.  So you can imagine my delight when Louise, a Breck High School senior,  mentioned she just returned from a school sponsored trip to China.  These are the types of sessions during which I have to remind myself to shoot and not spend the entire time talking.  Luckily, Louise didn’t seem to mind the plethora of questions I asked about her travels.  In fact, she seemed somewhat amused with my ability to chat, snap, and happy dance all at the same time.  Louise, you were such a joy to work with.  Best wishes to you in your senior year!

Michael…

I have to tell you, the seniors I’ve had so far this year are nothing short of amazing.  They are all so focused, driven, determined…all the things a parent could hope for in a child.  What a treat it is for me to have an opportunity to document this phase in their lives.  Michael, an Eastview High School senior, was certainly no exception.  He already has his sights set on college…oh, the choices!  Have a great year Michael and I hope you have a great swimming season!

Summer Break…

This morning we sent our oldest son off to Kindergarten bringing an official end to our summer break.  Oh, how time flies!  Our summer was filled with so many wonderful adventures.  One of which was a trip to my husband’s family cabin where we spent time with his parents and 3 of his 4 brothers (for those of you doing the math, my husband is the oldest of 5 boys!).  It’s hard to resist the urge to pull out my camera with so many adorable kids running around.  Here are two of the kiddos from our motley crew.  So fun!

Natural…

Some of you may remember the newborn baby who gave me the “o.k.” signal when I asked if he was ready to have his picture taken. Well, he’s 4 months old now and something tells me he might just be a natural in front of the camera. We started the session in his backyard where the sound of rushing water distracted him momentarily, but he quickly found the camera again and started doing his thing. What fun it is to watch these little ones grow…especially when they love the camera as much as this little guy!

Howdy…

Ahhhh…boyhood!  Tattered cowboy boots, wranglers, the big ol’ belt buckles and hats.  You’ve gotta’ love it, right?!  The taller of the two cowboys even tipped his hat to me when it was time to go…what a little gentleman.

Bliss…

Last year I received a call from Rebecca who was planning her Minnesota wedding all the way from her residence in Boston, MA.  We chatted several times on the phone but never had a chance to meet in person until the wedding day.  As soon as we arrived at the venue I knew we were in for a treat.  They planned such a beautiful event from beginning to end and it was truly an honor to be a part of it all.  Rebecca and Gintas, thank you again for inviting me to share in your very special day and I hope you enjoyed your trip to Italy!

Roots…

Growing up in Nebraska I spent my fair share of time surrounded by farmland.  When I arrived at this session I was immediately reminded of my childhood days when I could look out the window and see green fields for miles and miles.  It’s crazy to me that such a place exists within a few short miles of the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro.  The story behind the location was fascinating to me…so rich in history and still going strong after all these years thanks to a crew of very hardworking people.  Annie is one of them and what a treat it was for me to photograph her in her element.  After the horses made their debut Annie took me around and gave me a tour of the grounds and the old farmhouse, all of which served as a perfect spot for her senior pictures.  Annie, I wish you the very best as you head into your senior year and good luck with your upcoming competitions!  Your horses are beautiful.
