Built in the late 1800's, my studio is home to great history & memories. A childhood dream was realized when I opened my boutique style photography studio loft in this unique space filled with character. The space combined with our location in the quaint downtown area of Hudson, WI offers the capability for custom photography sessions indoors in addition to personalized on-location sites. My signature portrait style consists of simple,

yet strong composition resulting in images that are both honest and highly emotive. Foregoing stiff poses and forced smiles, I interact with subjects in such a way that unveils their distinct personalities. This approach combined with exquisite attention to detail provides for a comfortable and relaxed photo session and extraordinary images.

She’s here!

Some of you may remember Cal & Cassie’s maternity session from THIS blog entry where I shared how close we came to canceling our appointment because baby was showing signs that she may decide to arrive early.  Luckily, we were able to squeeze in a maternity shoot but it wasn’t long after that their beautiful baby girl was born!  It was so fun to go back to their home just a short time later to meet their new arrival.  She was such a dream to photograph sleeping through most of the session.  It wasn’t until the very end when she started to stir and fuss ever so slightly.  That’s when her daddy stepped in to comfort her and wouldn’t you know…she settled right down and fell back asleep with a big smile on her face.  Something tells me she is going to be daddy’s little girl!  Congratulations, Cal & Cassie!

I’ll come back in a few weeks and share her beautiful birth announcement!  I just don’t want to ruin the surprise for their friends and family who should be receiving their copies any day now.

High School Senior.

Margaret, a senior at Visitation, is the younger sister of two previous clients.  It’s been such a joy for me to work with her and her siblings.  They are all so bright, well spoken, thoughtful and ambitious…the list goes on and on.  Margaret is certainly no exception.  Not only is she smart, but she is a talented dancer and loves to read which gave us great talking points throughout her session.  We had such beautiful weather to work with so we took our time and enjoyed the conversation between locations.  It was a fun day and I just loved our time together.  Margaret, I wish you the best as you finish out your senior year.  I’ll be anxious to hear about your college choice (I do think you’d love Creighton, but then again I am from Nebraska so I might be a tad biased.)

Fall Family Session

One of my favorite things about this season is that I get to see families I’ve been working with year after year.  I started working with this beautiful family when their oldest daughter turned one year old and they’ve been back every year since.  Their little girls melt my heart, not only because they almost alway comment on my shoes, but because they have personality galore.  The oldest girl LOVES school, books, fashion and friends…needless to say we get along splendidly!!  Her little sister is as funny as funny can be and always manages to send me into a fit of giggles at some point during the session and this time was no exception.  She is a hoot and I absolutely love our time together.  It’s become a bit of a tradition for me to end their session at the local candy store.  Listening to the girls squeal in delight when we walk in the door will never get old!  Here are a few of my favorite images from their session this year…

I have been looking forward to this session ever since Paige and her mom stopped in the studio for a pre-session consultation.  They spent a fair amount of time searching for a photographer and I was flattered to know they had decided on me after reviewing the body of my work showcased here on the blog.  I love that they trusted my vision and gave me free reign over the approach to the shoot..  On the day of Paige’s session I knew within the first 5 minutes that she would make my job easy.  Paige was a natural in front of the camera and required very little direction.  I think you’ll find that her shy, yet friendly disposition shined through the images.  Best wishes to you, Paige, as you finish out your senior year at Hudson High School!

When I opened my photography studio in downtown Hudson one of my main goals was to provide high school seniors with an experience they would remember for many years to come.  I was reminded of this throughout my session with Nicole.  She and her mom arrived for the session and I could just sense their excitement.  Although it started out cloudy and a bit rainy we waited it out and wouldn’t you know…the sun came out in perfect timing. We had a wonderful time and something tells me this is a memory they won’t soon forget.  Nicole and Lori, thanks again for coming out for Nicole’s session!  You were both an absolute joy to work with.  Nicole, you are such a beautiful young woman inside and out.  Have a great senior year!

Cal and Cassie

Below are a few images from a maternity session that almost wasn’t!  Cassie contacted me several weeks ago explaining that she and her husband would be moving back to the United States from Canada and were hoping to squeeze in a maternity session before her baby arrived.  We scheduled her session to take place as soon as they arrived with just three weeks to spare before her due date.  I was nervous that the baby might decide to make an early appearance and my fears were validated when I received a text from Cassie at midnight on the day of our session to tell me that she was in the hospital after having repeated contractions for several hours.  My heart sank knowing just how much she was hoping for maternity photos.  I eagerly checked my messages in the morning to find that Cassie had been monitored but sent home and she wanted to move forward with the session.  Throughout the shoot I found myself a little on guard…anticipating her going into labor right before my eyes.  Luckily, baby stayed put and we were able to get through the session just fine!  Cal and Cassie- Best wishes to you in the final weeks of your pregnancy (if you last that long).  You are both going to be wonderful parents!!

Meet the lovely, Ally, a senior at Hudson High School!  We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for her photo session!  I was  glad to venture out to a few different locations as it gave us a lot of time to talk.  Throughout our time together I discovered that she has plans to go to Iowa State to pursue her undergraduate degree in psychology and plans to continue on for an advanced degree in her field.  This gave us a great talking point as my college roommate received a PhD in Psychology and currently works as a chief psychologist in a federal prison (Ann, if you’re reading this I was talking about you!!).  We had a great conversation and I loved that throughout the shoot we went back and forth between our chat and taking pictures…I have a tendency to forget that I’m “working” when shooting seniors.  Nevertheless, it was a great time and as you can see she is an absolute natural in front of the camera!  Ally- best wishes to you as you finish out your senior year!

Blog Mania

Of all the years I’ve been in business I’ve never had a season filled with as many sessions as this one.  I’m having a blast and love working with all of my clients, but I’m finding it very hard to keep up with my blog posts.  Rather than trying to blog individual sessions I thought I’d try combining them to give you a peek at what I’ve been working on.  It’s definitely high school senior season this time of year but as you can see I’ve had some families and newborns in the mix as well.  A huge thank you to each and every one of my clients who have made this season one to remember!

This year I am photographing a lot of younger siblings of past clients.  It’s always so fun for me to work with families time and time again and I love that it allows me the opportunity to re-connect with former seniors.  Grant is the youngest of three and I absolutely loved photographing his older sisters.  When his mom called to book his session she asked if it would be ok if the girls tagged along.  I jumped at the chance knowing we would have a great time chatting and I was anxious to hear about their college experiences so far.  Just as I suspected we had such a fun time and I took the chance at the end of the session to photograph all three of them together…one last time before they are all off to college.  Grant, best wishes to you and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with USC!

Family fun…

In the midst of all the high school senior sessions I’ve had a few family shoots tucked in every now and again.  This family is one I’ve been photographing for the past 5 years and I must say that it’s been such a joy to watch their family grow and to get to know their kids as much as I have.  The little girl and I have become fast friends and I’m sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I’ve been known to treat her to an ice cream cone after her sessions.  HA!  Their mom had a great idea to create a large canvas collage using images from this year’s session.  I loved the idea and I can’t wait to see how the final product turns out!
