Will dance for candy…

I’ve been photographing this beautiful little girl for four years now and I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed working with her over the years.  She was so excited about her 4th birthday that I knew I had to plan something very special for her visit.  When they arrived for the session she wanted to be sure I understood that her outfit of choice for the day was her tutu.  Reluctantly, she obliged her mother and wore a regular skirt and tee for a few frames but was more than ready to dive into her princess costume after that!  What luck, as my special plans for her included a trip to the candy store!  A girl in a tutu in a candy store…what fun?!!  When we arrived at the candy store she asked if she could pick out some candy to take home.  “Of course!” I said.  No sooner did I turn to look for a basket and she started dancing around the store.  She was one happy (and adorable) little girl buzzing around the candy store in her tutu!

All smiles…

I’ve met quite a few babies in my lifetime but I’m not sure I’ve ever met one who is as smiley as this little man.  He was all smiles when I first met him a few months ago and this time was no different.  It seemed that every time I picked up my camera he smiled even when he was sleeping.  What a ham, eh?!  And you simply HAVE to see the Christening gown his mom made…it is truly a work of art.  His bedroom is still under construction but I have to tell you that I cannot wait to see the room completed!  Such a lucky little boy!

It’s a small world…

One of the best things about my job is the opportunity I have to work with people from around the country and the world for that matter.  I love hearing about my clients’ life experiences and what brought them to where they are today.  This particular session took place in what is quickly becoming my favorite little neighborhood in Minneapolis.  I walked in and got right to work photographing adorable little Jack (who is quite fond of books might I add).  At one point during the session Jack’s mom and I started chatting about how we ended up in the Twin Cities area.  She mentioned she was from a small town in Iowa but moved north to attend school.   When I asked where she was from in Iowa, she responded with “Sioux City, it’s a little town in the corner of…”.  I had to cut her off because you see…that is where I grew up.  Neither of us could believe it!  Sioux City isn’t “tiny” but it’s certainly not a big city and it’s a rare occassion when one just bumps into someone from Sioux City.  Although we didn’t go to the same high school I have no doubt our paths must have crossed at some point when we were growing up.  What a small world, eh?!

Alex and Adelae…

Not only are these two kiddos gorgeous, but don’t they have great names too?!  These siblings came to the studio to get a few new shots for their portfolios and I couldn’t believe how natural they were in front of the camera.  We called it a wrap in no time at all which was probably a good thing with how cold we were outside.  I wish you both the best with your ventures and I’ll see you again in a few weeks!

Love Story…

All weddings have a love story behind them, but this was one for the books.  Mike and Melissa met and started dating 16 years ago.  (No, that is not a typo.)  Mike says it was love at first sight when he saw her hanging up a poster in the hallway at school.  They dated all through high school only to part ways in college.  They stayed in touch and reunited a few years later and the rest, they say, is history.  When they came to meet with me last year I could sense that their wedding day would be a day filled with emotion and that it was. Melissa’s exquisite taste was the perfect accompaniment to their beautiful day of celebration.  What an honor it was to be chosen to document the most important day of their lives.  Thank you again you guys!

Content… | Minneapolis newborn photographer

I can think of no better word to describe this little boy than content.  When I arrived for his session he was sound asleep which gave me an opportunity to visit with his mom and hear the story of baby “N”.  At one point in the conversation she pulled out some old family photos explaining that she had been looking through them to see if there was any resemblence to anyone from past generations.  I found the photos so intriguing and was inspired to re-create the vintage look of her treasured heirlooms on one of the shots from her session (see image 5).  Also, see if you can spot a little something poking through his bottom gum in image #1.  My guess is that it won’t be long and baby “N” will have a new tooth!

Here’s looking at you, kid…

There are those who simply delight being in front of the camera.  This little girl is one of them!  She stepped up on her “stage” and put on the performance of a lifetime.  Take a look at how she responded when her brother wanted in on the action.  (See 4th image)  Ha!  Could she be an Academy Award-winning actress in the making?!  You tell me.

Not only can she dance…

but she can pose as well! Yes, folks…she came up with this all on her own:

And then there’s “the look”:

Then it was her brothers turn…

Even though he took her spotlight for a moment, secretly she still thinks he is the best big brother in the world.
